Nick Symmonds [USA/1:46.54] placed first in Heat 1/6; Yuriy Borzakovskiy [RUS/1:46.14] in Heat 2/6; Abubaker Kaki [SUD/1:44.83] in Heat 3/6; David Lekuta Rudisha [KEN/1:46.29] in Heat 4/6; Kieberson Davide [BRA/1:46.06] in Heat 5/6; Rafith Rodriguez [COL/1:48.26] in Heat 6/6. Winner of Heat 4/6 also holds the current world record for this category.
