미국 백악관은 24일, 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령의 김정은 위원장에 보내는 서신을 공개하며, 다음달 12일 싱가포르에서 개최 예정이던 북미정상회담 취소를 발표했다. 트럼프 대통령의 북미회담 취소 발언 이후 각종 시민단체의 집회 시위가 이어지고 있고, 청와대 국민청원 게시판에는 트럼프 대통령의 탄핵을 요구하는 청원이 올라오기도 했다.
